For many people suffering from asthma or COPD, carrying a rescue inhaler is necessary. Optimally, they should also carry a spacer or valved holding chamber as well. Spacers and valved holding chamber improve delivery of medicine to the lungs. They also make inhalers easier to use by reducing or eliminating the need to coordinate taking a deep breath with actuation of the inhaler.

 

Unfortunately, spacers are bulky and inconvient to carry around at all times. Prickly Pear Innovations set out to improve spacer compliance by designing a pocket-size collapsible spacer, receiving a patent for an innovative solution on October 10, 2023.
